The Hon. Minister for Forests, Sports and Cinema, Shri. K. B. Ganesh Kumar formally inaugurated the modernized Rajiv Gandhi Office Complex at Thekkady on Monday, Oct. 8th, 2012. The office complex holds the offices of the Deputy Director, Periyar East division as well as offices of the scientific and administrative staff of the Periyar Tiger Conservation Foundation, the Range Forest Officers of Research, Flying Squad and Ecodevelopment ranges, the Assistant Forest Veterinary Officer (including a sparkling new post-mortem room and deep freezer room), the Microplan Implementation and Support Team (MIST) as well as a spacious new conference hall and library. In the future, the staff of the new BCRLIP project will also be housed in this complex. The Minister expressed praise and satisfaction at the quality and design of the office complex, and congratulated the Deputy Director of Periyar East Division, ShriSanjayan Kumar (IFS) for the initiative taken in completing the long-pending construction of the complex. The Minister also inaugurated the newly designed self-guided nature trail, Pugmark Trail, and the modernized Information Centre at the boat landing, the highlight being a state-of-the-art EcoShop for the sale of various products to tourists.
On Oct. 9th, the complex was also visited by the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Shri. A. P. Anil Kumar, who was greatly impressed with the facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Office Complex.
