Herpetofauna

The term herpetofauna encompasses both reptiles and amphibians, and herpetology is the branch of zoology involved in the study of this diverse group of vertebrates, coveringpoikilothermic, ectothermic tetrapods, excluding fish. Periyar is home to 48 reptile and 29 amphibian species, many of them endemic to the Western Ghats, as listed below
